Stitching the sky
Lately the color of the chilly twilight looks very similar to the indigo cloth I hand dyed back in spring. This inspired me to finally pick up the cloth that's been sitting on my sewing table and experiment. I played around piecing squares together. Turns out the stitches look a little like constellations. And by the way...I have no idea where this is going, I'm just following an impulse and keeping my hands busy.
If you are interested in indigo seeds, plant-dyed yarns, wool for spinning, knitting patterns, etc...the Fibershed online shop is now open. Oh and while you're at it check out the imaginative cyclocarder !

Now I know you can create a new sky :)
I took "harvesting color" out of the library - wow! I'm considering purchasing it, even through there are only about two plants that I can find in my part of Italy, and a couple that I could try to grow.
oh i like this idea! now that i've whittled down my sewing pile to half.....i've got scraps!
and you are full of surprises - a new shop! whatever else?
Francesca - I was checking the book out of the library too and had to finally get my own. I didn't realize that northern Italy would have such different plants! There are British books on natural dyeing that might be helpful for your climate. Exciting to hear your interest!
MP - OH NO it's not my shop! It belongs to the woman and organization where I took natural dyeing classes.
I like this impulse.
love your world...
Keep going! Very fun!
you' been indigo dying. ... i wish i could come sit at the end of a couch and look at the endeavour. i think dying fabric would be such a meditative experience (besides the hard work, i do realize). that's why i'd like to sit and hold still, see.
i so love 'stitching the sky'. so poetic.
