sustainable garden

Fabric drying in the sun, and a sprinkling of chickens

Above: natural fabric dyeing class with Rebecca Burgess.
Commonweal Garden, Bolinas CA

Plant matter: Toyon and Coffee Berry

.....

I just found out that Rebecca's new book, Harvesting Color, will be out May 1st. Also, there will be a Fibershed (grown and sewn close to home) fashion show debuting Rebecca's new sustainable clothing line on the same day in Point Reyes Station. Good things moving in a good direction - hooray.

I know, I've been coveting that book already, since you first told me about RB and her work. How did your experiment with oak galls go? Ciao!

Sophie - yes, I call them wellies ! and I haven't had a pair since I was three. Thought it was about time I get me some ;^)

Francesca - the experiment went very well... Amazing how we can make use of plant matter growing right outside our door. Perhaps a future post on this

Watching your garden, I become a child again and I can hear hens and try to have their eggs. The vellies make me think to the little flags made by prayers, in Tibet...

Lovely world ;)

Beautiful colors and project, I'd love to learn about fabric dyeing and am inspired by your direction!
For now, happy to be home after a whirlwind trip, sorry to have been slow to visit, nice to be here and find the world so restful.xoxo

I wish we could have chickens where we lived. I think it would be so much fun for the children.
