Holiday past (and present)

This is my one and only decoration that went up during the holiday season; a shabby-chic renaissance christmas thingy I made out of old scrap linen and kite string. I strung it from one side of the front porch to the other, and since I like it so much I have kept it up. It really doesn't look strictly holiday-ish and some people have even mistaken it for Tibetan prayer flags, which I feel is a plus. Ultimately my favorite two things about this decoration is that it really brightens up the front of the house, and in a neighborhood of showy holiday displays our decoration is...quite different.

it's beautiful! i love garlands or banners all year round. like th one i put up for my boys' birthday... still there, in the living room. melted into the christmas decoration, and now i guess it is a waiting-for-spring garland :)

Scrap linen, kite string and creativity: that's really all is needed to be festive!

I put your bunting up for Christmas, and decided to leave it up for the rest of the year!

Very Welcoming!
It reminds me of a Japanese "Noren", the curtains that you walk through to enter a shop or room, I always love the feeling of entering a room thru them, as I'm sure I would with yours!!
Hope you had a great holiday:)

hoorah for being yourself. I can envisage the tacky and bright lit-up santa sleighs everywhere and then, your rebel decorations. ha.

I totally agree about the Tibetan prayer flag thing. That was my first thought. What an easy brightener was my 2nd. Happy New Year, Janis!

Hi Janis,
very welcoming and easy to live with - lovely!
As IGY suggests - it reminds one of those japanese 'noren' - i did not know the name of them till I read what she had written.
They quietly herald the entry!
