a new headdress in progress ... THE Frida headdress ... jacket detail ... and me pushing up my specks with the mandatory tissue in hand (typical).

A couple months ago a workshop was offered on crepe paper flower making with Anandamayi Arnold.  I've been an admirer of Anandamayi having seen her work at Tail of the Yak in Berkeley for years.  I decided to take the workshop thinking it would be a fun experience and nothing else, I never thought I'd have a reason to make crepe paper flowers once class ended.  Enter Dias de los Muertos...  We decided to go at the last minute so I hurriedly pulled out my leftover crepe paper from the class - I thought a Frida-like headdress would be fun to wear and a good excuse to play with paper again.  So I began not sure it would work in such little time.  Regardless, I threw myself into it and cut, glued, and assembled madly until we were practically walking out the door.  Thankfully it worked out and it fit well too.

Anandamayi Arnold does not have a website but you can see some of her work in the June 2011 issue of World of Interiors (UK), or Tail of the Yak in Berkeley.

Exquisite work on your flowers! The Frida inspired flower head band is really beautiful!!! So too the embroidered jacket. A Day of the Dead celebration- looks marvelous! Such a vibrant holiday, thank you for sharing it with us!! Would love one day to be in San Fransisco on that particular holiday (or Chinese New Year!)

Thanks all!

Juniper - I stay far away from Chinese New Year celebrations because I'm afraid of the random firecracker explosions!
Hope you can make it out here for a Dias de los Muertos someday :^)

MP - get your paper out girl it's time to play!
