"Mildred hanging clothes"

Another found photo from my vintage collection. It's nice to find a name or
caption on the back, even as simple as this one. "Mildred hanging clothes".

There is a reason why I chose to post this photo today.
First, I find it peaceful to look at and second, wishful thinking.
This week, and for the first time this season
I tried hanging out my clothes to dry.
But no can do - the sun is shining but the clothes aren't drying.
Back to the laundry line in the hallway for a while.

You're right when you think this picture is peaceful... I don't know why, but it makes me think to freedom too... may be because I can see hill and "wild grasses" (I don't know if I can write it like this in english, for "herbes folles" in french).

Nice choice.

A beautiful day for you

That peaceful sensation, clothes dancing in the wind and the smell of recently cleaned clothes, the soap...love it.
I cannot also dry outside...must wait..they could freeze...and that´s not good.
Have a great inspiring weekend.

yes, peaceful...
interesting how certain photos go with certain days, and why of all the moments we post the ones we do...
lovely musings,
and good luck with your laundry!
BTW, we hang the laundry outside on the 'verandah' all year, Its one of the thinngs i love about living in japan (both for 'eco' and for the feel of the sun)!
But I know your feeling from today, often we have to bring it inside to get them completely dry in winter...

How nice to have some writing that connects you with the woman in the photo. I'm so tired of damp clothes everywhere that I put on snow boots today, and went outs to hang our laundry today. It doesn't look frozen, hopefully it'll be just a little dry.

This reminds me of our backyard in Iowa, when I was a child.
The smell of hanging laundry, drying in the sun- so nice!
Running barefoot in and around the hanging sheets.
Crocus, and lilacs blooming.

This reminds me of being at home in Newfoundland where all the women hang their clothes to dry in the sea-salty wind. So nostalgic :)

And thanks for stopping by my blog!

Nice photo
I enjoy seeing photos of the everyday, glimpses from the past, you wonder who wrote the caption, who took the photo, and what kind of woman this Mildred was.
Our clothes are taking ages to dry here too- the air too damp and the clouds still low.

Thank you for your words on capers
hope you are enjoying the weekend

nice photo and a good try!
next time a good dry!

the thing i love is the white sheets in the wintertime hanging outside and when you take them in, they are all frozen and stiff. not all dry but the smell :)

it makes me laugh sometimes and really makes me feel like an oldfashion housewife when I think of clothes hanging outside in the wind.. Even when they do not dry, the smell when you hang them back inside to dry is the best. :)

Dear Janis,
love your vintage pics! Reminds me of a photobook I once bought in an antique store. It's about a woman traveling trough Europe (alone!!)somewhere in the 1920's I guess. Hmmm...I shall post it oneday. I also love your drawings and birdnest!

I grew up with my mom hanging clothes out to dry. funny is in our area no one does that anymore. I love the smell of fresh air sheets. xo
